The Big Brighton Cake Bake

Picnic tables holding many cakes

June 8th, 2025

2:00pm – 4:30pm
Preston Park FitnessHub

Welcome to the The Big Brighton Cake Bake, your new favourite Brighton event.

What is it?
It’s an infinite cake glitch.
Chocolate cakes, birthday cakes, princess cakes, pineapple upside-down cakes! As much cake as you could ever want and then some more cake.
And it’s totally free.

Each person brings one cake. Then everyone will get the chance to sample a slice from as many cakes as you desire. Fancy a classic favourite? A new flavour you’ve never tried? Dig in and settle down with friends for the sweetest picnic of the year.

Will there be awards, I hear you say…
Of course!

Three extra special cakes will be awarded in the categories:
Most Creative Cake
Most Elegant Cake
Most Brighton Cake

Think you’ve got what it takes to win? Better start baking!

The first annual Big Brighton Cake Bake takes place on Sunday, June 8th 2025 in the Preston Park Bowling Green.

Presented by Friends of Preston Park, a community-building volunteer group celebrating their super sweet 15th anniversary. Want to see more events like this? Volunteer!

The Big Brighton Cake Bake is free! Your cake is your ticket!

One person, one cake! Every picnic guest must bring one full size cake to enter. Even if your friend or partner brings a cake, you need one too! Every volunteer, organizer, and special guest of The Big Brighton Cake Bake is also baking a cake ourselves. Bring on the sea of cake!

Please bring everything you would for a picnic. A blanket to sit on, plates, and forks. The more utensils you bring from home, the less waste The Big Brighton Cake Bake will have and the more sustainable the event will be!

Please bring your cake on a serving tray or cake stand that you can easily transport, as well as a cake slicer. You’ll have time at the end of the picnic to collect your items.

While you’re grabbing your slices of cake, please be conscious to put the cake slicer back with the same cake.

As long as your cake is cake-shaped and cake-sized, it probably counts as cake. We encourage you to go as creative or traditional as you want!

However, half the fun is slicing and sharing each beautiful cake, so at The Big Brighton Cake Bake, cupcakes do not count as cake.

The joy of the Cake Bake is the variety and creativity of each cake. So we encourage you to get into the Cake Bake spirit in the kitchen. You’ll enjoy the reward to seeing your unique creation in the sea of cakes.

Buuuuut, if you really don’t have the magic touch in the kitchen and still want to participate, not all cakes need to be homemade.

Supermarket cakes are not allowed. However, supporting local independent bakeries is! If you really don’t want to bake your Cake Bake cake, check out our list of local bakers who make wonderful and whimsical cakes that would be absolutely at home at The Big Brighton Cake Bake.
